I heard something really funny today: "Three words to fix the economy, gay bridal registry." I literally laughed out loud at this one. As someone who has a gay best friend, I can attest to the truth of this statement.
I believe in everyone's right to love, no matter the gender or race. I have an amazing marriage and want that for everyone. I will always support a president who doesn't govern based on one religion. If we allow the leader of the free world to rule based on religious principles that haven't evolved for over 2000 years we are no better than our enemies.
So President Barack Obama, I applaud you and your decision to stand up for what you believe in - publicly.
Standing up for what you believe in is always a courages choice. It saddens me though, that you are only applauded for standing up when your choice is the "popular" choice. A promising "Miss" gives her opinion that a marriage should be between a man and a woman and she gets bombarded with hate mail...doesn´t seem so fair to me. I am, for one, one of those people that believe that the bible´s teachings are timeless, all of them. The fact that gay marriages have become popular, doesn´t mean they´re right. I just hope the president´s decision to support it wasn´t actually an attempt at more votes. Mind you, I´d still vote for him anyway...and I do agree with the quote...
